Re-pollard a mature ash tree in Bolton-Le-Sands for one of the teams today.
Why was a Re-pollard done
A tree re-pollarding is done to manage and maintain a tree that has already been pollarded before. The purpose is to:
1. Control regrowth: After the initial pollard, new shoots grow rapidly. Re-pollarding removes these shoots before they become too heavy or unstable.
2. Maintain tree size and shape: It keeps the tree compact, especially in urban environments where space is limited.
3. Prevent damage or hazard: If regrowth is left too long, the branches can become weakly attached and break, posing a risk to people or property.
4. Encourage healthy new growth: Regular re-pollarding ensures strong, uniform shoots develop from the pollard points.
5. Extend the tree’s lifespan: Surprisingly, when done right, re-pollarding can prolong a tree’s life by reducing stress on weak limbs or decayed areas.
